We are only able to create this community garden because the Queen Edith's Bowls Club ceased using the space in 2013 and no other club could be found to replace it. There was then a sad period when no-one was using the area and the gates remained locked...
Several former bowls players visit the garden frequently and, for many reasons, we would like to remember the history of the space as a place where people enjoyed playing bowls together for many decades.
For this reason, we chose the Queen Edith's Bowls Club colours for this website: light blue and yellow. And we will see how we can use bowls, these colours, and some of their artefacts in the garden design too.
