Nightingale abundance

The Rock Abundance stall at the Queen Edith's Community Action Morning last August

The Rock Abundance stall at the Queen Edith's Community Action Morning last August

We have had a request from a local garden group to visit the meadow 'in full flower' one Sunday afternoon.

In 2015, the flowers were best during August and into September so we thought we would also have an Abundance stall at the same time. We have held these locally and across Cambridge in 2014 and 2015 - they are for swapping and sharing garden and allotment fruit, veg, flowers, herbs, plants.

Other local garden clubs might like to meet up too?

Cambridge Wild Weekend 2016 - 8 to 10 July

One of the privet hawkmoths from Saturday morning last year, when we opened the overnight moth trap.

After the great success of our first Wild Weekend...

By popular demand, we are doing another one - but going Cambridge-wide, partnering with other community groups and also the City and County Council plus Sustrans and Transition Cambridge.

We are having three events on the park and in the garden: Friday night bats from 8pm, Saturday morning moths and insects, from 9am and Sunday afternoon habitats. They are all community-led, short meet-ups. Bring a torch on Friday, a snack if you will be hungry and thirsty and watch for the weather.

See the event website: www.cambridgewildweekend.org.uk which forwards to a page on the  the Queen Edith's Community Forum website - for updates. Also, contact us if you'd like to be involved.

Meadow sowing

IMG_5806.jpg

The meadow areas have been sprayed, ploughed and edged. With a bit of raking, and weather allowing, they will be ready for sowing, from 1pm on Tuesday.

This is when our third gardening for health group have their weekly session. You are very welcome to join us, although the areas are smaller this year so we will need fewer people to actually sow and tread in. If you want to get involved, do wear mud-proof shoes - we have had a lot of rain recently!

Free event: RSPB Big Birdwatch

IMG_5240.jpg

Do join us for an early-morning bird watch in the new community garden. We should see lots of birds coming for breakfast in our Bird Cafe.

30 January 2016: see news article on it including the count.

We will meet at 8am, count for an hour and then have some hot drinks and biscuits - and there are rumours of a home-made cake.

Bring some binoculars along if you have some. We will have at least two people who know a sparrow from a sparrow hawk.

Some of us might wander into the main park too, to do a count there.

We will send our records in to the RSPB afterwards.

All free, no need to book.

If the weather is really horrible, stay in the warm (but we will be there just in case it improves).
