Single orchid and request for a hungry donkey

We have spotted just one bee orchid in flower in the garden, now marked by a bamboo cane (see photo). There might be others in the long grass area to the right of the club hut so be a bit careful where you walk and let dogs and children run. Last year we had about 10 in flower but people living nearby with them in their gardens have said they had fewer (or maybe they are flowering later) this year. Maybe the mild winter and wet and then dry weather hasn't helped them. And apparently they move around, which conjures up images...

The Californian poppies in the meadow area are really taking off - and there are a few pink toadflax coming out too. Photos to follow - it was a rather damp session in the garden on Sunday and the poppies close up in wet weather.

Apart from mowing, edging and continuing to dig the butterfly bed, we attacked thistles and fat hen in the meadow beds. Barrow loads of them and many more to come. Could do with Eeyore joining our group (he enjoyed thistles, I recall)...
